Is it that your software just can't view the RAW files?

Hi John,
I discovered when downloading todays pics onto my PC that there were no RAW files within the DCIM/100PENTX directory on the SD card. (Slight correction the last one taken yesterday is also missing the RAW)
There are JPG files only.
I use whatever XP throws up to view the JPG files and SilkyPix Pentax Photobrowser 3 to view the RAW
regards
Bernard

Just in case the PC is not showing them to you, reformat a memory card. Check and note the card free space, then take one image in RAW + JPEG and see how much space has been used, if its more than a single JPEG there is a good chance that for some reason your PC is not seeing the RAW image.
Also see if the camera shows a difference in images available when changing it from RAW to RAW+JPEG

Theres another item I've just noticed :-
If I delete a picture on the camera the options to delete RAW; RAW + JPG; JPG have also disappeared and is limited only to delete as if I'd set the camera to JPG only.
The camera is set to RAW+ using the menu rather than the button on the side, which doesn't appear to do anything in this mode although I recall it changing the setting temporarily when in JPG mode.

Addendum,
Just got your post David.
The PC can see the RAW files that I took yesterday.
The LCD display does indeed show dramatic changes in "shots available" when I change the mode.

I'm not sure.
I've put a new SD card in; replaced the battery; restored the factory settings.
SD cards are both SanDisk Ultra II 2GB and to all intents appear identical.
I download directly from the camera to the PC ie no reader in between
All now appears to be OK - but what caused the glitch. If I knew that for example it caused by pressing xxxxx then I'll at least know, but when it pops up out of the blue my next thought is when will it happen again. It might be a time when I really want a RAW and I won't know 'til I get home.

If you are shooting RAW using the RAW button, perhaps you have it set so it reverts to JPEG after one shot?
Have you actually altered the menu to shoot RAW, or have you only adjusted the RAW+JPEG option to define what the RAW button does?

Thats a good question.Have you actually altered the menu to shoot RAW, or have you only adjusted the RAW+JPEG option to define what the RAW button does?
I set the file format under the menu/rec mode to RAW+ and for the last month have downloaded to the PC a RAW file and a JPG file, exactly as I expected to do.
I've not knowingly set up the Raw button, although I occasionally caught it when the menu/rec mode was set to JPG and found odd RAWs afterwards
Things changed with the last shot of yesterday.
As I said in a previous reply I've now done a reset custom function and changed both SD card and battery.
I'll take some more tomorrow and review the situation.

If this is true it could be a memory thing, there is an option what the camera should remeber and what should be set to default, not sure where it is but it's in the menu somwhere (not the custom menu), check how that is set.If you are shooting RAW using the RAW button, perhaps you have it set so it reverts to JPEG after one shot?
There will be option for whitebalance, file count and things like that, around the 8 options or so out of my head.

Its also possible to change every option in the RAW menu to jpeg. The RAW menu isn't in the custom menu, its here: Menu> Record Mode> RAW button

You can set it to switch for always or for just one shot i believe.
Good thinking =]

Hi Guys,
It looks as if my K10D is back on track - took 50 odd shots yesterday without a blip and just transfered all (RAW & JPG) to my PC.
I hadn't conciously fiddled with any buttons on the camera, but set up RAW+ under Menu/Rec.Mode/File Format.
I didn't do anything other than that and it had worked fine for well over a month until the other day - now its back -curious.

For the last month or so I've set my K10D to RAW+ and taken PEF + JPG.
I don't think I've knocked anything by mistake but today I'm not getting any RAW(PEF) recorded.
The display advises RAW+ but shoots JPEG only
Any ideas please
regards
Bernard
