Yeah sorry i was thinking a bit wrong with my last comment.
Some settings can are lost when the camera is out of power for some time but since it happened with you during shooting it doesn't apply.

Could it be that the camera was wihtout any power for some time?

I suppose it is possible I didn't switch off (I invariable do automatically) for a total of 13min - is that what you meant by some time.
The following day I shot another 50 or so (alas all in JPG) and discovered the problm when I came to download onto the PC, so I don't really suspect the battery.
