Most obvious suspect (in my view) is caused by a glitch in a firmware update. If it was battery removal for a period of time (say, 24 hours) then the internal clock in the camera would lose its settings, and return the camera date to, say, 01/01/2001.

No firmware update or battery change involved. There is at most 1 minute between a correct date/time stamp and the random ones. The next photo in the sequence is also correct, and taken only a short while later.

Gwyn - perhaps a firmware update has been released to address the kind of "problem" you've encountered. Have a look at the firmware update history - it may make reference to this problem, and advise that a particular firmware update has been released to address this for you... Either that, or sell it on Ebay as the ideal camera for Hallow'een, as it comes with built-in ghosties and ghoulies!!

It sounds very much like you encountered some sort of rupture in the time/space continuum...a time-warp or worm-hole perhaps? Evidently you travelled into the future briefly. Anything interesting on those two images? You could have been abducted by aliens. Any strange scars you didn't have have previously, or loss of memory?

Can you get the EXACT date and time including seconds for those images plus ones either side.
It might be useful to convert to standard format and then to binary and see if it is just one or two bits changing.

I see that two photos, which follow on sequentially have a random date and time on them. The first says 19/7/2041 09:51 and the second says 8/2/2036 19:29. Those before and after have the correct date and time, as does the GPS info. This is with a K5ii.
Any ideas why this glitch occurred? I shall have to correct the EXIF of course, but I am curious about why it happened, and if anyone else has experienced this.
