Poppy about to burst !

The top of the bud is slightly out of focus and it would have been nice if that small bug was removed first but otherwise a very nice photo.

Hi Zach, and welcome to forum BTW..

the 18-55 focusses from about 9-10", so if you're in that close the DOF won't be that great. That's why with macro photography, DOF can be as little as 0.5mm.. and we did have a muck about here on one thread where it was probably measured in microns.

The top is perhaps a bit hot but the colours are wonderful. I think poppies are addictive as a photographic subject as well...

Thanks for the comments, yes I love poppies, got a bumper crop in my garden, TBH I didn't even notice the offending bug, now removed I have attempted to make it less hot at the top, does it look any better...?
I am always afraid to do too much PPing incase it looks over worked..
It was F/8, honest as metadata..!

I have just learnt a salient lesson, do not remove original image (as I did!)from 'photobucket' it will not display anymore, have reinstated it now...

Magical poppy images Prieni, love them, I am with Gwyn love 1 & 4 best, do think your bugs were more picturesque than mine was tho' ....

as I said in the first post, these poppies are addictive By all means have another go. Since they are in your garden you have the opportunity to shoot at different lighting conditions, which should be interesting.

Not sure that I share your judgement on the appeal of the bugs in my poppy shots. There were just too b****y many of them. I have a few shots of the field from further away and when I first opened them on my computer I thought I had gazillions of dust specks on the sensor. Of course, it only were the bugs doing their bug thing and flying around.
