I don't think that would quite fit on my desktop
Get a larger desk. After all, it only weights twenty eight thousand kilos. Here's a link to a video of my other large format "printer": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t81X4NRMZr0

Just found this link which would appear to answer all of the questions about print resolution.

Yes thanks that was the one.

North-light has great articles about colour management as well.
Interesting link that

Yves, it seems that you are taking your hobby very serious.

I start saving up for the desk first...

[quote:3496ace15f="Smeggypants" That looks like a car for a roller coaster [/quote]Unfortunately, the roller coaster would collapse under it's weight. It's 29 tons, 9 meters long, and 2.5 meters high. It works on 380 V., and pulls up to 100 Amps. It can print up to 11.500 sheets an hour in a maximum size of 72cm. X 104cm.

1440 dpi (eg for Epson printers) is only the printer's screening resolution. In other words, it can lay down dots to that level of resolution, depending on the dither (which is the distribution of coloured dots that gives us the illusion of a continuous gamut).

For Epsons the actual resolution is 360 dpi, or 720 at fine quality, and for HP and Canon it's 300 or 600. But since the dot distribution (dither) is stochastic (chaotic, or non-regular), the actual dpi for any given linear inch of print may depend on image content, colour (some colours require a smaller number of widely spaced dots), profile quality etc.

The number of dots per pixel is, of course, entirely dependent on the file size/print size relationship.
