pixel shift tests come back very positive

Why would it take up extra space? The final image is the same pixel size, just for each pixel my understanding is it has a true colour reading rather than being processed from a single colour algorithm, where they take an educated interpretation as such.

In raw the Pentax K-3 II's Pixel Shift Resolution images have about 3.7 to 3.8 times the file size of a standard raw file. You can expect some very, very large file sizes if you intend to shoot in raw format using Pixel Shift Resolution, on the order of 121-122MB even at base sensitivity, and likely even larger as your ISO sensitivity setting climbs. That's equally true of Olympus' rival, though, with file sizes of around 100MB for its High Resolution-mode raw files, about five times the size of its standard raws.

Thanks, good info, I was surprised on the extra size still but the results I reckon are definitely worth it, I hope this does filter down to the existing models.

How? Via a firmware patch? Doubt that's even possible..I hope this does filter down to the existing models.
Even if it was, it would be unlikely that Pentax would want to interfere with sales of the K-3II.

And maybe they should send anyone who wants it a free GPS astrotracing module, with instructions on how to remove your built-in flash and fit the module ....

Very impressive indeed. The Pentax images to my eye are significantly better than those from the Nikon D810, albeit the subject has to be stationary.

Obviously depends on how it's done.InFESTation wrote:

If it's using the sensor shift, and nothing else, then it should be possible.
It's supposed to be tripod based, so that new gyro bit wouldn't be in use if the camera is stationary.
On the surface it looks like it should be possible on other models with sensor shift tech.
Just needs a firmware update to enable the feature on older models.
Chances of that with Pentax?...

Zero....
It would hurt their K-3II sales.

to be accurate within less than a pixel!

Very interesting
Just imagine how this technology may work with a high res full frame model
It may well be limited due to the need for static subjects but many subjects are static - I will sit back and watch with interest
