63.46 GBP upgrade, 77.46 GBP full version.

It allows for proper layer masks, and has the new content aware healing brush too.
The Mac version now comes with organiser instead of Bridge.


The price is why they don't merge it with Lightroom. Not everyone needs Lightroom or is willing to pay 232.65 GBP for it.

These are the prices on Adobe UK. No doubt, as usual, you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

Lightroom is a different beast from PhotoShop Elements, I suppose they want to maximise sales.

They can sell PSE9, Lightroom and PhotoShop ?

Downloading!!! 1.75GB ... is that really necessary!? In comparison GIMP is 20MB and Lightroom is 100-something MB.

I don't need full Photoshop, I wouldn't use a quarter of all it offers. Nor I suspect do most people who use it.

I don't know Lightroom, but it is usable with Elements - Elements can do things Lightroom can't, just as full Photoshop can.

Elements does all I need it to do, and quite a bit more besides, for a good price. Until PSE 9 workarounds, or plug-in were needed for some things, like layer masks, and no doubt still are needed for other tasks, but it is a good price, especially if you don't buy it from Adobe, and offer4s most things an amateur photographer needs.

I would never download it. I tried that with PSE4 and failed miserably - it took weeks to get Adobe off their behinds to sort it out and eventually they sent me the CD-Rom - twice. I told them if they wanted the second one back they should pay the postage. I heard nothing from them.

I bought PSE6 elsewhere for about 60% of the Adobe price. The upgrade never seems financially worth while to me.

I find PSE8 does everything I want, too.

Although proper layer masks do sound worthwhile, I'll wait till Costco has it though.

You might find this Layer mask tool useful. I've only just downloaded it, but it looks OK to me ....

I probably need the full thing anyway as I am still on PSE6.

When I last upgraded from 5 to 7, I bought the Upgrade version, which turned out to be the full version
