Take a look at the free version of Studioline.
Also look out for remaindered versions of Photoshop Elements (try Morgan Computer for this).

If you have a recent computer Windows Live Photo Gallery is a free part of Windows Live Essentials 2011 and has enough editing tools while you wait.
I use Serifs excellent PhotoPlus X4. There is a free version to try
Gimp is free but complicated
If you want Adobe consider the Elements amateur software. It has much of he most used Photoshop features.

Any version of full Photoshop from 7 onwards will do more than anybody could ever learn to do. Maybe a second hand purchase of Photoshop 7?
Best regards, John

The problem with older versions of Photoshop and Elements is that they don't support modern PEF files. So unless you have shot your photos in DNG or Jpeg you will need a modern Photoshop, Lightroom or Photoshop Elements, which does pretty much everything you need for a lot less money.
Or try one of the free packages suggested above.

Photoshop Elements 9, which is the latest version, is available for about £50. This program will do almost anything that a photographer could want. It also has a good organiser for your photos.
Friendly Regards

I got PSE9 for £23 last year amazon black Friday.
Looking forward to this years offerings. Only 2 months to give all the free editors a try, then run the PSE free trial for 30 days, then hope PSE appears as a software deal.
