Why not do as Gary does and mark hi-res versions as private? I wouldn't want to rely on flickr to store photos, but as an easily accessible 2nd backup, it does make sense.

I back up my pics to a 500gb external HD and also to a Jobo Giga One which I take everywhere with me to download my SD cards to. This has worked for me for the last 4 years and the only images that have "gone missing" are the ones I have deleted. I too do not trust online storage.

With 1TB drives so affordable now (I have 3!) it makes sense to duplicate from the master set on the PC.
I also cut 'sets' from breaks/holidays/ sessions onto DVD as a 'just in case.
Like 'spider I relied on an external drive while I re-installed WinXP, only to have the (then) expensive drive die.
6 months of images lost, including our 25th wedding stuff. The boss was not a happy bunny.
