You are right but sometimes on these pages people post or link to pics that are so small that any discussion about their resolution etc. is rendered pointless, sometimes, 'more is more'!

I wil post a link to some of my Canadian (small) pictures later this week, I'll be very interested in comments from you natives.

pete, I reread my post from this morning (before my morning coffee, though that's no excuse), and it doesn't read the way it was intended....I was not trying to be so critical, my goal was to offer some money making advice you could cash in on, but it reads more like a criticism. Please forgive if I offended.

Please bear in mind that in Internet-Speak (so to speak) using capitalisation is interpreted as shouting, and I'm sure you didn't mean to shout. I don't know if shouting in red means shouting even louder....

Ok Folks,

I like a good constructive debate so here goes

The K100 is a good camera of that there is no doubt but it cannot be compared to the K10D

The K10D is a semi pro model and a major upgrade from the K100 and therefore one is paying for that in its own right.

Whether the price difference between the K10d and the K100 is justified is another issue.

However if the two where lab tested side by side im sure the K10D would win hands down. It does not mean the K100 is a bad camera just not in the same catagory as the K10D so i suppose it is unfar to make any comparison.

It really depends what you want from photography and how far you want to take it. The K100 is capable of many things including producing great images. The K10D is for more advanced users or people willing to learn many different techniques and use its features to the max.

Deciding between the two is down to personal choice. Me personally i would go with the K10D and enjoy its capability and many new features which one can learn.

For cats, I would suggest either:

Cats that are calm, and who'll just sit and watch you as if to say "What are you doing?"



Playing with the cat until it falls asleep.



Using a toy to attract it's attention.



I wouldn't bother trying to sit it somewhere it doesn't want to be - find out where it sits, then work around it.

P.S. These were all taken on Provia 400, and all I can say is 'How much grain???'. Makes you glad to be shooting digital now.

Ah, thanks John, she's mine. I think she's fantastic too.

Taken with a 50mm lens (on 35mm film), can't remember the aperture, but probably around f/4 or 5.6, lit by the window in front door (door used to be mostly glass, and faces north), metered from a grey card.

We'd just had the new carpet on the stairs, and I thought she'd look nice against it. I seem to remember wiggling my finger above the lens to make her look.

getting the black on black and maintaining seperation from the background is always tricky. well done!
reminds me of a cat we used to have named Diva.
I adopted her from the pound (her incredible green eyes and jet black fur hooked me.)
My best friend showed up at my house in his custom toyota 4x4 (his pride and joy. He took one look, then a second and proclaimed "It's that damn cat!"
turns out my new cat used to be his neighbours old cat.
his neighbours old cat used to climb all over his custom paint on the warm hood of his toyota....finally got caught by animal crontrol....

"That F@@#$$%N cat's possesed. get it off my truck please..."

We know all that, Pete. We are not comparing cameras, we are debating whether an admitted novice (that's you) with no absolutely no knowledge of the original poster's needs (and not much knowledge of photography) should tell him that he has chosen the wrong camera.

The only information you have to go on is that he said he is budget-conscious. Now I may be stupid, and you may be clever, but to me that information suggests the choice of a less expensive camera rather than a more expensive camera. But that's just silly old me.

Now go and take some pictures. When you have ten years experience, come back and start telling people what cameras they ought to buy.

i dont tell people what to buy, its called general advice !!!

George you really have got your back up over this, I have simply stated facts whether i have ten years experience or not is not the point. As for telling people what camera to buy I dont ! i read lots, and take in advice from people like you and others and pass it on. Please dont presume what you dont know about me. I have been doing photography (not SLR) for 15 years but only now do i take it more serious with DSLR. I also have an A level in Digital imaging . My Friend is also a Proffesional Photographer of 8 years and he advised me to go with the K10D instead of a cannon. I asked about the K100 and he pretty much quoted the above comments and said better going with a semi pro model if your thinking of doing more serious work.
