Pentax X70
Has anyone got their hands on the X70 yet?
Thinking of updating my old FZ8 Panasonic and going all Pentax with the X70. Just that nagging feeling i should be looking at the old master....the FZ28!

Tried one in SRS last Friday, it's very light and responsive. The last bridge camera I had was a Fuji 602 and the X70 is definitely an advance on that. I have no experience of the Panny FZ series, my suggestion is that you nip round to LCE in Southampton and compare the offerings. My local LCE in Gloucester is a tiny shop and it has stocks of both, so I'm sure they will in Southampton.
And one of them is behind the counter, but they are a nice bunch.
I had the Panasonic FZ28 till my son nicked it, for a bridge camera very good but as with most "Bridge" cameras the biggest fault is shutter lag.
Are you pleased with your purchase :

Pentax Glass: DA* 300, DA* 60-250, DA* 50-135, DA* 16-50, DA 70 Ltd, FA 31 Ltd, DA 35 Ltd, DA 18-55 (2), DA 12-24, DA 10-17, M 200, A 35-70, M 40, M 28, Converter-A 2X-S, 1.4X-S, AF 1.7, Pentax-110 50, Pentax-110 24
Other Glass: Sigma 105 macro, Sigma-A APO 75-300
Flash: Metz 58 AF-1 P, Pentax AF160FC ringflash, Pentax AF280T
I suppose for some, lugging a DSLR around everywhere you go is a pain, but don't you notice a lack of quality in your shots???
Please don't think that I am having a dig at anyone, that's not my intention at all. I mean sometimes I get tempted to purchase one but I think that I would regret not having my DSLR's around just in case a once in a lifetime shot came about.
On the other hand, my father in-law has a Panasonic Bridge and ironically I helped him choose it. He wants to upgrade it now as it's a little old. This X70 could be right up his street.

there are times when it was the right camera.
one place is where you want video and stills, and neither needs to be "Pro" like family events or travel.
another is when shooting long... cameras like the canon is10 or the new pentax cost way less than even a mediocre 400mm tele for the slrs.
on a tripod, in good light, these cameras can match the quality of my old sigma 400 fairly easily.
so for nature shots, or travel...
another area is in dark areas when using flash (here the new pentax disapoints) the canons I had (g5 and pro1) both had advanced wireless capabilities same as the dslrs, but unlike the dslrs, they also had bright evf/live view lcds and passive and active af that worked perfectly even in pitch black conditions. They were also nearly silent shutters. So speedlights and bridge cameras made more than a few dark venus look good...
I had a canon pro 1.
I had one of those and hated it. Much preferred my Canon G2 (am I allowed to say that on here?) but that got nicked. The Pro 1 cost me more than the K10D and the Sigma 50mm macro combined, and died when a student left it in direct sunshine on site.
It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.
