Pentax x-5 ??

To be fair, this is Pentax User, so recommending other makes isn't really in the brief. There are plenty of reviews on sister-site ePHOTOzine, but to be honest any of the similar cameras will do her fine.
I'm not sure that a casual user needs really to go to massive lengths to research this, she needs to handle a few cameras to see what suits her.

I'd say it looks like a great camera. the x90 was a decent camera for the price, and the x5 looks to be improved all across the board.... bridge cameras are usually a fine alternative for people that need nice vacation shots in a portable package!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Of course the choice ultimately is your friends - and there are many options available.
That said - I would have no hesitation in suggesting that she checks out the X-5. The spec is excellent and it is extremely good value at the current SRS price and would be hard to beat for sub £200.
The ease of use, and image quality achievable even to a novice should be at least on par with anything else available for that price and significantly better than a high percentage of other options.
It is also worth mentioning that at £199 - it is £70 cheaper than it's predecessor the X90 (Amazon price)
The one thing it is not of course is a P+S you can slip in your pocket or handbag

I was wondering about recommending the new Pentax x-5, as it seems like good value for £200 giving her a great optical zoom and decent features, she seems quite open to having a bridge camera rather than a compact type camera. IQ, is her primary motivation.
Just wondered if anyone has any other recommendations at that price point, it's not a market I know well !
