Pentax The Most Expensive Flash

Earlier in the week I went into a large Photographic Shop in Leicester. I browsed the Pentax dedicated cabinet and noticed incredible prices for Pentax Flashguns.
AF360FGZ - £472.99
AF540FGZ - £655.99

The trouble is, people going into the shop to perhaps buy the Pentax KM, will be put off by the incredible price of the flashgun.
I presume these are the new Pentax recommended prices. I know that SRS and other Pentax dealers currently have them much cheaper, but when stocks run out, no doubt we are in for some large price increases, on flashguns.

Those of us who already own a current Pentax Flash, can at least be comforted that the value of our assets has increased. Lets hope we do not have to buy a new one.
Friendly Regards
Graham

I believe there is a little external flash sold in some k-m bundles?

But yes those are hefty prices. Even more glad I got my Samsung badged 360FGZ at £90 now!

That is the very reason that I purchased a Sigma ring flash for just over half of the price of 360 and less than half of the 540. I admit a ring flash is not for everyone but it suits me at present.

pentax could leapfrog all the competition by recognizing that p-ttl pre-flashes is not the way of the future.
wireless via radio, or bluetooth is.
take the 540 and 360, insert new wireless transcievers (if it'll fit in an sd card, why not have a radio card in the flash unit?) and put the wireless cards into new bodies, put accessory transmitters out for old bodies... have manual, and auto modes with optical slaves....

(be nice if you could control color temp from the flash instead of having to gel them)

software like pentax remote that allows you to program the flash outputs for a number of flashes from your laptop.... or controller flash unit.

and have a wireless flash setup that any strobist would buy... regardless of camera brand, and offer advance p-ttl type metering on pentax bodies....

having a lighting set that gets featured on 'Strobist' available for ANY brand camera should push volume sales up and therefore prices down...
might even help sell a camera or two..
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
