Pentax Ricoh

All over the place. I see a lot of magazines and Pentax coverage seems fine, much better than it's been for many years.

The statement says quite clearly that they will continue to use the Pentax name on products. Even if they didn't, they'd hardly be likely to give up the PK mount, would they, especially after already introducing two new cameras using the mount?

I don't understand why so many people here always see any change as a bad thing? I find it hilarious if not a bit sad. The Ricoh buyout is probably the best thing that has happened for Pentax and users of their equipment in 30 years.

Because if they want to compete with Nikon and Canon they need
to be seen in a similar light using just the brand name Pentax.
Keep it simple..... they already made that decision in the
70's when they dropped Asahi.

Mitsubishi actually own Nikon but they (Misubishi) don't try
make themselves visible on the camera side. link

Even Leica have long since stopped using Leitz.
They were actually owned by Wild Leitz AG until
the 1994 management buyout. Wild Leitz AG still
own the Leica name and a small share in the camera

The name of the company has little or nothing to do with the brand name. Pentax will be written on the cameras.

Nobody cares what the company is called. How many people who buy the products could tell you who makes Persil, Fairy Liquid or Benson & Hedges, without consulting the small print on the packaging, or care.

Two different things, no big deal.

There is a big difference between a company name and a brand name. The brand name isn't changing.

Galxosmithkline has owned Horlicks since the 1960s (approximately), but they haven't stopped making Horlicks or calling it Horlicks, and they have a website called Horlicks.

Some people worry too much.

Here in Burton - Marmite is now made by Unilever (possibly better known for soap powders)

Pentax wasn't originally the company name anyway, the company was Asahi Optical Co., Pentax was a name they put on the cameras (Asahi Pentax) in the same way that Canon SLRs are labelled "EOS".

I think it's a good move. Anything marked "Pentax" is a Ricoh SLR or system camera, all the compact stuff becomes simply Ricoh. It sets up anything branded as Pentax as Ricoh's high-end gear.

And possibly better tasting than Marmite


TBH though, as long as they keep the K mount I don't give a rats **** what name is on the camera (within reason)

For what it's worth I was making me coffee at stupid o clock this morning,and hit my bookmark for Pentax Richo imaging for something to read while I drank the coffee, and my first thought was why? it's a perfectly good name ,it's their choice.I don't think it will affect the Camera buying public at all.
Pentax Richo seem to be on a roll with good new kit coming out all the time, Just wish I could afford to buy some ...jeff..
