Pentax Ricoh

Yeah another whiner. What's it to him what Ricoh decides to call itself? His posts are full of whining about other stuff. Whining about the release date of the Canon 70D. Trembling about the new Samsung smartphone/camera ('another nail in the coffin' he calls it). He needs to lighten up and stop whining.

To compete with Canon, Nikon Leica etc. it has to be a single
name. They already decided that in the 70's when they dropped
Asahi. They also dropped the AOC Logo. No Pentax user was happy
about this. It was done purely to attract new buyers.

Putting anything in front of the Pentax name or trying to
turn it into a model range would considerably reduce it's
impact. Ricoh is King and they won't be happy until only
their name remains on the cameras, just like they do on
the copier market with takeovers.

The Pentax websites are a bit of a mess with two camera makes
and "Pentax a Ricoh Company".... A company that no longer
exists

Pentax is a brand, Algi, and was long before they changed the company name to Pentax.

My K-5 is partly rebadged I've got a genuine Ricoh body
cap on it and I'm trying to find a sticker with Ricoh on
it for the body. If I can't find that I've got one that
says "WHATEVER" in red so I might have to settle for a
"Whatever K-5" with a Ricoh body cap and Pentax lenses

Joking aside... Aren't Ricoh K body caps brilliant!
They stick out 2mm more from the body than the Pentax
one's giving you a much better grip

Just looking at a P6x7 lens cap:

'Takumar lens for Asahi Pentax' around the top.

'AOCo' logo in the centre.

'Asahi Opt. Co., Ltd.' around the bottom.

No wonder they simplified it.

I can't imagine anyone not buying a 67 because there were too many names on it!

I can't imagine that many people go into SRS to test
drive a lens cap before they buy it

What is about pentax forums that when ever pentax announces a new product or what ever people feel compeled to have long arguments about marketing? It's even started to creep into reviews.

It might be because lot of people ignore pentax for almost no good reason (as in they don't even consider it in the buying process). The products are decent. You would think they would have a bigger market share.

Go into a random shop, you probably wouldn't see one let alone be recommended one.

Some people haven't even heard of pentax, despite it being a big name historically.

Similarly (except for the prices!) I was in SRS at Watford yesterday and it was quite something to see a fairly long line of Pentax cameras on the shelf behind the main counter. (K30, K50, K500, K5ii, K5iis + compacts etc).
