Pentax Physiology
The K10D has been discontinued for some time...
Try Asahi Photo - they still hold parts for many looooong since discontinued Pentax items

Sorry to hear about your K10.
1) Yes, there appear to be big differences. The shutter in the K7, for example, is much quieter and faster than the K10, and even the K20 seems (to my ears at least) quieter suggesting differences in manufacture.
2) The K20D is a good upgrade from the K10D while being familiar enough that there is no learning curve.
Best wishes, Kris.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

I would try and find out what part was required and contact another repairer for a second opinion, link for instance or another highly recomended one who name escapes me, no doubt someone will be along to provide you with a link.
If not, it might pay you to subscribe to the club first and enjoy the quarterly magazine as well.
LCE are suggesting the K20 as a relacement but I`m wondering how long it is before parts for this model become unavailable...for example, replacement of "the bit that captures the light"...(dunno what it`s called but you know what I mean...I hope),afteral, how long before an image receptor burns out?.
Seriously thinking about approaching the UK`s approved Pentax Repairer...but I`ll give Asahi a try first.
Thanks for your suggestion Matt

1) But would there really be that much difference in physical size?...not being an engineer...ha ha ha
2) Well, you`re the first one to post a positive point for the K20 although I`m now surfing the Interweb for price comparisons...where`s Peter Jones when you need him...ha ha ha
impotentspider,
Not a problem, that`s not like you, you`re usually on the ball
John,
Good point...although another monthy mag to go along with my RadCom,what would SWHTBO say?...he he he
I suppose my options are.
1)send to Authorised/Other Repairer and be without my dSLR for a further undisclosed period
2)Purchase a K20 and cut my losses
3)Purchase a K20 & continue to try to get my K10D repairered
4)Move to another manufacturer...but then,I`ve sorta got a feel for my K10D...and then there`s my Tamron and my 2x Converter
Decisions,decisions...ho hum

Nic, perhaps you should try an alternative repairer first.

Have to admit I am sorely tempted,if only for the fact that one can live with my 18-55 (Pentax) and one with my 70-300 (Tamron).
However,I was quoted £250 for the repair that hasn`t materialised and to be far,The K10D only had under 3000 clicks under it`s belt (I save all my captures to a "doorstop of an external hard drive)...good job I`ve got a little of the disposable stuff still available..ha ha ha
Thanks for your input Guys, much appreciated.

So,one now wonders...
1)What are the Physiological differences within the Pentax range?.I appreciate that software may be different from one model to the next but is there really that much difference from, say, the shutter of the K7 to the K100 (physically speaking)?.
2)Do I now take a look at the K20 as a replacement?.
