Is this a good hood?

If you get a rubber screw-in hood then they're usually extendable in two stages. Try it fully extended first and if you can see it in the periphery then wind it back to the half-way position. If you're using it on a DSLR then a general purpose hood would probably suffice.

Hi Dave, I use this hood with my FA50 and FA28 primes. The eBay seller seems very good and ships quickly. The hood is good quality and inexpensive.
Obviously being metal it will not retract like the hood hefty suggests.
Oh and I forgot to mention that it works well with my FA28

You can get the correct Pentax clamp-on metal rectangular hood in a leather case - they come up all the time on ebay.

I've recently purchased an SMC 28mm f2.8 M lens which of course is no longer a wide-angle lens when used on a DSLR.
Would it be best to get a general purpose 49mm hood or one designed specifically for a wide angle lens?
