Future Pentax cameras

The new K10d is certainly a very nice looking camera, and with the new pro lenses arriving next year it has made me curious if Pentax have another DSLR hidden up their sleeve for sometime in the future.
A metal body faster frame rate K1d perhaps. I probably am getting over excited but I would really love to see it happen. Any thoughts?

The K10D is in fact a pro-spec camera. If the mythical K1D ever shows up, it'll probably be an all-metal body and a Samsung sensor.

Hopefully a sensor with an aspect ratio more like 4:5 or 3:4 than 2:3, for the portrait and wedding market. That would be quite a coup!!

Im not sure I am keen on this Samsung link, is Pentax actually owned by Samsung now.

Samsung do not own part of Pentax. This is a technical partnership, and since they got together Pentax has announced a raft of new models and lenses which have set the photographic world alight.

I very much doubt that we would be seeing the K10D now if it hadn't been for the tie-in with Samsung. And the low price is only possible because they expect to sell much greater volumes.

I'm all for it, because without it we would perhaps be looking at the end of Pentax.

So is there anything the K10D does not have that other pro spec cameras do?

Oddly enough, the PC synch socket is the only thing I can find that isn't top of the line. A lot of pros use Pocket Wizards (and I used it as an excuse to get rid of the !@^%$ synch cord that I always get tangled in). I had a a three-arm cord so I wouldn't have to switch cords between the meter and the camera.

I promptly got tangled and tripped, so since my flash meter has a Pocket Wizard transmitter, I coughed up for a couple of trancievers.

So I forgive Pentax for the oversight, since it *forced* me to get the Pocket Wizards.

The only things I could fault it for so far is the frame rate, I don't really need 5fps but it would be cool; Also the body isn't metal. Perhaps thats what the K1D will have, I am holding on to hope.

Pentax have not breathed a word about a K1D, and I for one very much doubt it will happen within the next four years. They would need to have a much larger market share before a K1D would make sense.

And why lust after features you wouldn't use?

How quickly one has to eat one's words. I have just read elsewhere of an interview given by the head of Pentax's imaging divison (I never knew image was a verb) in which he says that a flagship model is being planned.

I'm sure I've read about the future no1 already ages ago on this very forum, adressed as 1KD, and that's why I'm quite surprised it's beeing discussed elsewhere as a totally new thing. Can' t remember the oracle, though. Well, anyway, it was one of you Pillars of Knowledge and Wisdom

The K1D was the full frame that never saw the light of production-day.
The recent article I saw only suggested that there would be others... when and what they would be was not discussed.

Yes, that was announced at about the same time as the MZ-S... dated picture on account of the small viewer at the back....
