Pentax K1 - pulling the trigger

Hi all,
After a lot of thought I have finally decided to pull the trigger on the K1. Will travel to Watford on Monday to accomplish the deed. I am planning to get the HD FA 24-70mm and the Tamron 70-200 mm. Would you have any advice about the lens choice? I do have the DA* 60-250 as well.

I’m sure you will be happy with the K-1 Naim, I know I (still) am.

I personally have no experience with either but if I were you I would first try the 60-250 on the K-1 and see if the results are acceptable as in some ways it is a nicer lens than the 70-200mm (SDM, lighter, more compact, more range). Unless of course you specifically need the the f/2.8 and/or never do any post-processing of your images.

cant remeber who it was now but someone on here took the baffle out of the 60/250 to make it full frame

I had the same dilemma but tried all four of the new lenses before buying them

The 150-450 was a "no brainer" , as was the 15-30; both of them are superb but when it came to the others, I settled in the end for the 28-105 which I have to say Is really capable of great results and the fact it is not a f2.8 is of no real consequence to me.

The 70-200 was my big dilemma because I also had the 60-250 which frankly speaking I really didn't want to sell as it was my favourite zoom lens,and so good optically.

The 70-200 is optically superb too but it is such a beast and is quite costly; anyway for no better reason than my intention to go full frame only, I sold the 60-250, with some serious consternation and put that money to the purchase of the 70-200.

Well if that "baffle mod" works for the 60-250 then I will be happy for all current owners of the 60-250 and totally gutted that I sold mine, I prefer it by a large margin to the 70-200 which I hope I will grow on me in time.

Also there was a post on PU not too long ago which discussed the fact that the 60-250 Pentax patent spec'showed it was an FF configuration, so I would chase that baffle mod' down before selling the lens.

As for the K1 it is a great FF by any standards and it is real tool - I am very pleased with mine

I am still waiting to find a really good alternative to the 24-70 f2.8 FA lens for wide angle landscape. Neither the 15-30 f2.8 nor the 31mm prime can take square filters and there isn't anything wider than 24mm from Sigma nor Tamron as far as I can tell. At the other end of the scale I am considering the 200mm prime rather than the 70-200mm f2.8 zoom as it is lighter and cheaper, and pleased to see that it is fully operational in FF.

There seems to be a few of the 20mm still up for sale http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sigma-20mm-F-1-8-EX-Asph-DG-DF-RF-AF-Wide-Lens-For-Pen... This lens gets very mixed reviews though.

I have given serious thought to mod the 60-250mm but am fearful that I will do it irreparable damage, especially inserting a piece of cardboard into the lens. On balance, I probably will adapt it to the K1, however.

Oh, right, that's great thanks.

Don't forget the very budget alternative for the wide angle, the FAJ 18-35. It's great value by comparison and does the job!
The design is similar to the DAL18-55 and can't see why fitting any filter would be a problem.
