I have never owned an ES or ESII and I have vowed never to touch one (if I happen to be in a camera shop that has one) - it can only lead to bad things. I've bought 20+ Pentax (K and onwards) items over the past few weeks, if I owned one of these gorgeous works of art and mechanical mastery I would surely become M42 addicted too !

For me, the S1a is better looking than the ES.
Without the meter of coarse. Something about the shiny metal I suppose.

My ES is my favourite Pentax M42 camera despite its limitations. Enjoy!

I bought a Japanese 'Home Market' 'Electro-Spotmatic' in Tokyo in 1973 and had to pay Customs Duty at Heathrow-- well all was well for a year then it developed a fault where if I took some pics quickly some were over-exposed as the CdS cell had a 'memory' then i found it could not be repaired in UK as the electronics were different to the 'ES' 'Export Version' -- luckily we had a bloke at my Club who collected Pentaxes and when he knew I wanted to get rid of my dodgy camera offered me £85-00 as it had the brown case and original box with the instructions - so I lost only about 10 quid on that camera !

Car boot find together with an smc tak 55mm 1.8 and a ghostless uv filter put batteries in and it works
S1a had for years fully working inc the meter
