Difficult to say .. ask the same question on a Canon or Nikon forum and you will get a different answer every time.

All are good cameras ... very difficult to buy rubbish these days.

Currys are doing it for £499 as well but using the code 6OFFCUR you get another £30 off.

Unfortunately Pentax don't do a cheap AF 50mm ... new price is around £300 for a 1.4 and £500 for the DA* 55mm f1.4.

If you don't mind manual focus then a used Pentax-A 50mm f1.7 can be had for around £50

Personally I would probably go for a basic K-r with 18-55mm and then look for a used 55-300mm to go with it.

why 50 mm? given the 35 2.4 is affordable and give a simialr FOV as a 50 would on a 35 mm film (FF) camera ...
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Check out the classified section there has been a couple of krs there over the last week or two and you will save quite a bit to put towards a lens.

The 18-55mm isn't a waste of money. There are better lenses around of course, but you won't find anything better for the same amount. Stop it down a bit and it's sharp, it's also lightweight and easy to handle.

The DA 35/2.4 is definitely your next stop if you're after a new standard prime, it isn't so much a case of it being amazing considering how cheap it is as amazingly cheap considering the lens it is!

Kr + 18-55 + 55-300 to get you going. Add the 35 if you really want but to start you have a lot more flexibility with a focal length range covering 18 - 300 ! Add / Sell lenses once you know which direction your lense preference is going in (primes / zooms / WR / * lenses) etc. etc.

Also if you want to save money there are some very good manual focus lenses you can pick up very cheaply. I bought a smc m 50mm 1.7 for ten pounds and its a lovely lens.
