The packaging also sucks. It stands out quite strongly since the original 'old style' boxes are beautiful. This one has the wrong colours and again narrower fonts.

U could be right but if u go to park cameras or wex photo or Clifton cameras there pentax K 3 batteries they have are made by Hoya in china with cell made in Japan ?

There's a space before and after the comma on the genuine batteries, not on the fakes.

You are so observant I hadn’t noticed the spaces before and after the Comma. Its funny the non genuine has the spaces correctly positioned and the genuine Pentax hasn’t. Maybe Pentax did that deliberately to catch the forgers out.

Nobody has mentioned the protection circuit that should be in these batteries. If it isn't there or if it isn't up to the job for that specific type of cell then the battery can fail dangerously in some circumstances (high temperature; over-charging etc.). Skimping on protection is one way of keeping costs down. I would be very suspicious of very cheap lithium-ion batteries even if they do deliver the given voltage and current - it's only when you need to be protected that you'll find you aren't, and then it's too late.

You don't need to save up for the genuine article, there are reputable brands that are half the price. I've been happy with Hahnel, widely available from major camera stores. The rated capacity is a bit less than the original Pentax. However, the rated capacity depends on how they have measured it, you'll get different numbers depending on temperature, current drawn etc. and there doesn't seem to be a standard way of doing it. It is also possible that it reflects Ricoh having stricter acceptance criteria so they reject any battery that is not very close to spec, whereas other reputable brands may allow a broader variation, in each case the rated capacity being the minimum that they expect their batteries to achieve rather than the precise value that they will achieve. We don't know and they aren't telling. But in real-world use I've not noticed any difference between Hahnel and genuine Pentax (although, of course, i might have just been lucky ).

I have had this one for years with no problem. 'Corporation' spelt correctly.

I reported the listing to eBay and told them it was fake. Their reply?
"We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made by a customer service agent"

Useless.

Yes we're far beyond the point where we can positively influence things on the internet. Forums are the last piece of the old internet that still exist.

There are so many ADs on eBay that are clearly making hugely false claims its obvious they just dont care. Maybe if we all reported it.

I reported this listing again a couple of days ago. Lo and behold they now use AI to check if it's fraudulent! Guess what? The listing sailed by the AI check with flying colours and I got an email to confirm this. In the email there was a button to appeal to a human. I did, and today I got emailed to say the item is removed. Any bets it will pop up again with another seller?
