The focus limiter on the older FA lens limits the focus range between one of two settings to limit the focus travel. The focus clamp is essential a brake to stop the moveable barrel from creeping when used vertically.

so i may go for the Tamron especiallly as tamron/srs are giving 5 years gaurantee at the moment.

This might sound strange but you would not miss the focus limiter much because it has quick-shift.
If you see it over-shoots the focus, you simply stop give the focus ring a twitch so that's closer to the focus and 95% of the time it snap on instantly then.

Roy, just try it In the shop if you can, you notice fast enough which you find better to handle.

I would probably go for the pentax except that it does not have a focus limiter.Does the focus clamp work in the same way?
also reviewers say the tamron is much sharper wide open,whats it like in the real world?
