3 & 4 are my favorites, so yes, angles it is! They have more energy, but also the lines behind the cars are much clearer and have more bite.

Nice, I do in general find images of cars rather samey and even boring, but these have life and vigour in them. The diagonal compositions are really good.

Thanks guys. Without press access there's a limit to the locations I can shoot from, and I tried a few fast-shutter shots but they just look like the cars are static - funny how years ago I was always aiming for that freeze-frame effect. As always I have many hundreds of almost-identical shots, ideal for car enthusiasts who will notice the different cars, but not here.

Very nice images, I don't usually go for cars, but these are good.

Not something I have tried. However, I have taken aircraft shots and still fail to get one as good as your Spitfire shot re propeller blur. I'm not sure on angle shots that is personal choice, it does seem to work. I like your shots as they convey movement and speed whilst being clear and colourful

Nice work, Mike.

I have about 600 to sift through from Monday... but first need to finish sorting out my Belgian GP shots. I seem to be drowning in jpegs.

These are well-taken, sharp, panned images Mike, and experiments are always worth trying, but I'm going to be awkward and prefer 5 & 6 here. The tilted shots look oddly uphill/downhill to me, and I think that is because they are shot from the side. The technique seems to work better in shots taken from the front quarter, i.e. the car also angled as it comes towards you, as in examples 2, 4, and 8 from Simon (link). Just my opinion, of course.

Cheers Philip. I suspect if I tried the shots Simon has there I'd be looking at lot more blurry pictures - I've only just managed to get some decent stuff when the distance camera-car isn't really changing much, and not changing very quickly.

There is a hint of looking as if they're on a hill, and of course either the flat or the tilted shots could easily be 'converted' post shot. Mainly it was the panning that I was trying with, even with the same shutter speed (1/125th) I am finding it very easy to end up with blurred shots, but I don't want to go to 1/160th as it will start to reduce the background blur and take away from the motion effect. At the end of the event I can think of better shots, better locations and so on (even with the places I can get to as a 'normo') but there's always next time.
