I have an Optio S5i and download images to my AppleMac Pro. Hitherto, this has been trouble-free, but now when I connect the USB attachment and press the camera's 'on' button to activate downloading it simply switches the camera on and does not enable downloading at all. Pictures are 'trapped' in the camera. What is wrong please, and how can I remedy the problem?

I would suggest using a card reader instead.

The problem's more likely to be with your computer - I've had instances before where the OS has updated itself and the process has knocked something askew in another programme that had worked fine up to that point.

Having said that, John's suggestion of getting a card reader is a very good one. They're faster at downloading pictures than your camera will be, are pretty much foolproof and dirt cheap these days.

You want one that will read SD cards and 7dayshop are currently selling those for £1.99 - plus it's a buy-one-get-one-free offer with free UK postage, that's less than the price of a pint!

In the camera, check "USB Connection" in the Setup menu is set to "PC".

A change in your computer may have stopped automatic downloading, but still you should be able to do it manually via Windows Explorer (or an equivalent if you use a different operating system). Click the drive, find the folder, and copy and paste.

You may find using a card reader more convenient than plugging in a cable anyway. It also saves the camera's battery.
