Horizontal Lines on some photos

Hi, I have a K10D and I have started getting horizontal lines on some of my photos. It looks like it could be bad sensor recording? It does not appear in all my photos and is not in the same place each time. I have tried different SD cards so I know it is not the cards. I have checked my sensor and it looks clean. Has anyone come across this problem and if so what is the cure, if there is one?

Do you have the latest firmware installed? I think an update included a fix for banding (lines).

Some software also can help with removing the lines afterwards, including Silkypix Developer Studio Pro.

The following only mentions "vertical stripes" rather than horizontal, but I would make sure the latest firmware was installed anyway:

Could indeed be a bad sensor. Personally, I would replace the camera if the fault appears frequently. It wouldn't be cheap to repair even if it was possible to repair.

Problem resolved. The lines were appearing during the file transfer to the PC. I WAS connecting the camera direct to the PC via the USB lead (tried different leads same problem), which made for a much quicker file transfer. I have tried putting the SD card into the card slot on the PC (much much much slower file transfer) and 'ha presto' the lines no longer appear. It’s only taken me 3 weeks to sort, but at least it only cost me time.

I don't understand how the files can be corrupted like that, but glad you're not getting the problem any more anyway.

You'll find that one of the better card readers (eg. Integral) will enable high-speed transfers - just as fast, or faster - than via direct camera connection.
