Optio Pics in dim lite

I cant seem to take a picture in low light. The screen wont show anything so I dont know what I am taking a picture of.

Any suggestions on how to lighten the display screen?

What model of optio? Is it really dim light? The lcd is supposed to gain up in dim light, but it could be too dim even for that. You could always use the optical viewfinder instead.
