Battery Depleted Message on S50

Hello,

I have just purchased an S50 and everytime i try to turn it on it has a "batteries depleted" message. I have tried several sets of new batteries and have the same problem. It did work for one week prior to this. At the moment all that happens is that the camera beeps and the lense opens for a moment then closed and the camera shuts off with the battery depleted error message. Has anyone else seen this issue? Do i need to send it back for repair? Is this a "known issue" with these cameras?

I have an s50 too. What type of batteries are you using? Are they normal non-rechargable ones or rechargable? I use 2100mah ni-mh rechargables and have no problems I once got a depleted message when connecting the camera to the TV, but that dissappeared when I tried again. Other than that, the only depleted messages I get are when the batteries are actually depleted.

Hello - I am using normal durcell AA batteries and am still having the problem. How long should they normally last? I will try rechargable batteries before sending it back.

From what I've read ( http://www.batterylogic.co.uk/faq.htm ), normal AA batteries just aren't upto the job of powering a digital camera. Get yourself some of the highest capacity rechargables you can find, mine are 2300mah and can charge in 1-2 hours, you can get 2100's which will charge in 15 minutes.
