Online Photography Course

Hi there,?
Did anyone tried an online photography course ?, are they any good ? and incase what you would suggest ?

Any form of distance learning requires a great deal of self-discipline. If you've got that, there are no doubt many good courses available. I know somebody who did an NYIP course and thought it was excellent.

But if you're in the UK and have an evening class available, that might provide the inter-action and incentives that a remote course can't.

I am in Glasgow and there is course in the Metropolitan college and i thought to do that but I am very often on call during the evening and often I come back from work quite late and work on a sunday as well, I am not sure i can fit into a scheduled lesson that`s the reason I thought about internet lessons. I will have a look into the one you suggest.

The course at Glasgow Met is very good with friendly and knowledgable staff. I can recommend the courses at Motherwell College too. Unfortunately they don't, of course, have the fexibilty of distance learning.

As George says, distance learning requires discipline and you dont have the support of fellow students but you'll find plenty of knowledge and support around here so stick around!

I thanks for your suggestion, even I am quite new to the forum as a menber I always read lots of posts trying to catch any skills from all of you more experience photographer, and i understand that having a person close to you that can show how to achieve result is a much better solution, I believe the best things is go for it and sacrifice my work a little bit, because what it matter is enjoy ourself and a part for playing my bass guitar photography is really even if expensive a fantastic hobby.

Hi Claudio, have a look at proudphotography.com (this one you will see advertised on the pentax Site). It's a very good on-line course with good project work and is excellent value at a very good price.

Yes, I'm doing the course and find it excellent, has helped me make that jump from auto mode. You can register and look at the forum without signing up for the course and you'll see the level of info, help, advice etc, hope this helps.

A basic online 10 weeks course is offered by Open University here,and is recognised by The Royal Photographic Society (RPS).

Interesting Course, looks like more focused on Elements and Digital Imaging. What about the massive difference between cost for UK residents and others ( stated reason is Gov subsidy ),

I've often looked at these sort of courses, but never had the time to dedicate to them.

If you do have the time it could be very rewarding.

haven't looked at online courses, I did an A level photography course in the evening at my local college. Cost was just £100 for the year, I gained more knowledge by being in a room with likeminded people than the course, however the course was still good & improved my artistic side.

The physicalities of taking a photograph are easily learnt, the artistic side takes a lot more longer

I have done a few courses at my local cultural centre. Like Cabstar I learned so much from being with a group of like minded people. The technicalities are relatively easy, but learning to look at and criticise your own photos and those of others is a great part of it all. That is what helps develop the "photographer's eye".
Plus we covered quite a bit of the history of photography and various well know photographers, went to exhibitions, talked to some of the photographers exhibiting and the like. It was really interesting to hear the photographers talk about their work, and why they took that particular photo. They could rarely tell us how they took it but always why.
We also went on field trips - we all had the same subject but the range of photos that came out of it were amazing.
These courses were all on a Saturday which helped. I'm not sure I'd have the self discipline to do an online course, where as knowing you will be attending a course once a fortnight is a great incentive to actually do the assignments.

wish i could find a class that cheap the closest i have found is a phtography class every fortnight and thats £148 for 6 classes
