Raw what do you do with it!

ok do you Edit the raw image ,then convert to jpeg when happy, or do you convert the raw in to tiff, thus allowing it to show in windows explorer and edit from the tiff?,then what do you do with the final image? also what do you recomend, as i am using adobe photo shop cs4 and adobe bridge thus allowing the batch convert from raw to what ever tiff or jpeg etc, just interested how you folks do it? regards am off out snapping now as its a glorious day here in cardiff

This how may day look after some shooting.
- plug in the SD-card in the pc (load faster then with the camera)
- then upload and converter the PEF files from the card to DNG with the help of lightroom 2.3. DNG files convertered by the pc are smaller, it saves only some MB per photo but if you got over a 2000 photos that's more then 4GB of space you save.
- then enhance the photos in lightroom. The photos are still in RAW (dng) and the changes you make in lightroom arent save with the image but in lightrooms own database so you never change the original.
- when I want to display the photo I open the photo from lightroom to CS4, it's the RAW file with ligthrooms changes and I edit those and print the result or save it as jpg to show it to you guys.
The things I do in Photoshop CS4 are simple and only spend 5 minutes or less in it per photo so I don't save that file into TIFF or other Loseless form.

Everyone has there own way of doing things so don't take my as example but work out your own way of doing things.

I use paragraphs and punctuation.

Open in ACR and develop there

Either open directly on the normal CS4 page, or first save in TIFF or PSD according to the use.

Keep the RAW file, and the final TIFF or large Jpeg for events and customers.

I use CS4 bridge to weed out poor shots, make adjustments via some presets I found on the web.

Open into CS4 to assign profiles for printing ect.

Been thinking about keeping all my raw files on a USB drive to save space.( only having working files on machine )

How did you get on with HDR foxycce

I use Silkypix to process the RAW images.
In about 95% of the images a conversion to JPEG from Silkypix is enough when you want something printed.
The other 5% get saved to TIFF and are then processed in PS or when I want to play with some HDR images then they go to Artizen HDR.

I am really waiting on Silkypix pro 4 which is coming out this summer (it is allready there for our Japanese friends but they are still translating...). It has some additional features which possibly change my workflow so that 99% of the images can be used straight out of the RAW converter.

EDIT: sometimes when I have a lot of TIFF images I let a batch action compress the TIFF images with LZW or ZIP. You can do this with either PS or with Irfanview.

1: A paragraph contains one or more sentences, each beginning with a capital letter and ending with a full stop. A question mark can replace a full stop if the sentence is a question.
