Once upon a time

Once upon a time I was asked to do the photographs for the college ball (St Aidan's college, Durham, 1986). I had no idea what I was doing really, but I did it anyway with the help of my friend Allan. Towards the end of the evening we were getting a bit bored as custom had dropped off, and so I grabbed a passing friend, Colin, and set up a self-timed photograph. Little did I know, until I developed the film, that we would look like a young Godfather and two heavies. Happy memories, apart from spending the best part of ten days in the darkroom cursing that I had offered sepia toned prints.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

What a super example of an early Womble photo. This little group looks like it could be an embryo Beyond the Fringe gathering.
Durham in the mid '80s? I was around the city even then.
Now I'm trying to work out which is the Godfather and who are the two heavies.

Ah nostalgia! Imagine duplicating the shot today, with the same people of course. Could the effect be honestly portrayed?

Cheers,
Stephen
I gladly welcome C & C's. Being foggy minded they really help me learn.

I still see Beyond the Fringe rather than The Godfather. The guy sitting is Jonathon Miller, the student standing on the left is Peter Cook and Womble has got to be Dudley Moore.

At least one of the persons present seems unused to wearing a collar and tie. And a lounge suit.

Full marks for bravery, Kris. I hope all of my early pictures remain tied up in the shoe box and unscanned for ever!

Regards,

Andrew

Lovely shot Kris As Andrew said you're a brave man

One consolation - of the three you look the least stuck in the 80s!

Whether it's Beyond the Fringe, the Godfather or the Goodies, that's actually a pretty sharp image Kris! Great IQ & detail, and processing to match.

My how time flies.
