noisy k30 (soundwise)

The level of whiring depends on the lens used, some are noisier than others. Lenses with SDM motor are silent. The 18-55 tends to be a bit noisy, I assume that is what you are using.

yes it was the 18-55 kit lens, i find the clunk of the shutter more annoying more than the whirring tbh though probably both would disturb those stood nearby

The K30 shutter noise is much the same as the K10 and K20. On the other hand the shutter on the K5 is whisper quiet in comparison as is the sensor cleaning. I thought it a shame when Pentax had already perfected a quiet system but then again I suppose it does have something to do with build cost.

As we bought from curry's most camera's to test weren't charged so hadn't noticed it at the time of purchase while in town today we decided to check outCanon 60D and Nikon D7000 just to see how they compared and both were much quieter in use, the shop doesn't stock pentax so couldn't test others.
