www.asahiphoto.co.uk have done repairs for me on Pentax Dslrs.I got good service and a reasonable bill. Best wishes,

@Hammerlee, thanks for the idea, I'll contact them.
@SteveF; I was just glad to get the camera back as I was going on a longish holiday and I wanted it back. They had had it for at least four weeks. I just assumed that they had thrown the packaging into a pile and the camera had been on the workbench for a week or two until they were chased about it.
The only other Pentax repair I have had carried out was a Pentax lens which Pentax UK did under warranty. I think, (from the job sheet perhaps) that that work was carried out by Dixons, who did a good job.

I've just sent my iis back for a similar problem to Johnsons via SRS under warranty and I've received notification that a replacement camera is on its way.

My K5 has a fault whereby when the shutter is pressed, the mirror moves up and stays there. There is a continuous whirring sound whilst the mirror is raised. It will only return to normal when the battery is removed and reinserted.

Derek you've described a well known issue which was very common with the Kr and now with some K5's too it's known as the mirror flip problem I've found various references to this w today whilst researching my kr further.
apparently it can be resolved by doing the following
Here is the fix from Pentax. I had the same problem with my new K-r. You must clean the contacts on the lens and camera. There is a youtube video on how to clean your lens contacts.
