Nissin 360TW with k100d

Posted 18/10/2007 - 06:59 Link
Apologies but I posted this in the wrong section before.

Can anyone tell me if the Nissin 360TW will work with my k100d
as i've got the chance of one but don't want to try it on my camera incase I do it damage.

The flash was used with a Pentax MV previous to this so i'm assuming it is Pentax compatible.

Thanks

Jim

Going by this http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html the trigger voltage for your flash is around 10volts but i would check it my self if i were you. (you need a voltmeter to check it) There is some conjecture on trigger voltages where nobody is sure on what the safe limit is for your camera. I was told 30 volts for the K10 is ok!!
Some trigger voltages go as high as 200volts.
Just use caution and check the voltage first.

Chances are it'll only work in fully manual, or any of it's automatic modes if it has any. TTL flash control is not supported on the K10D as it uses P-TTL (Pre-flash TTL).

This flash can definitely only be used in manual mode on the K10D.

It has three output levels - full, half and quarter power, and a sensor so that it will, hopefully, expose correctly when used as fill flash in auto mode.

It's not a bad little flash, but my recommendation is to scour Ebay until you find a Pentax AF500-FTZ (if you want a manual flash). It's more powerful and more configurable. New ones go for 200 Euros, but I've picked up a couple in the last few months for a fraction of that.
