I don't mind carrying the gear suggested in my bag, its not that heavy, and I have walked around other cities with a similar amount of kit. Oh I have a compact - my LX-5 which will be going too.

It is the one big advantage of Pentax, cracking image quality with small lenses. Only really M43 and Leica can match it, and M43 iq is not as good IMHO.

Three Xmas's ago, K10D + fishy for buildings, ( I got the Empire State from across the road ) + FA50 f1.4 for night shots.

Don't take any photos on bridges or in tunnels - it's frowned upon and can get you arrested.

I agree with the Staten Island Ferry suggestion!

My personal favourites are the people and the almost tucked away business frontages - three storey print shops tucked in between 40 storey apartments.
