Have they added tethered shooting yet or is it not going to be available for the K-7? In which case it's a lesser camera than the Canikons.

No idea, never had the slightest interest in tethered shooting to be honest.

I can and have used tethered shooting with Remote Assistant and my K10D so I am sure it is or will be available with the K-7.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Not available as yet and not promised. There's a thread about it on the US forum. The camera wouldn't be much use in advertising without it.

There is no Remote Assistant software disc with the K-7 package, unlike the K20. I wonder why they dropped it for the K-7

Will the K-7 work using the K20D R/Assistant?

As the K-7 is not being promoted as having Remote Assistant capability, I doubt very much if the internal interfaces to control the hardware will be present.

"Why did they drop it?" To keep the costs down, it's not a killer feature that will attract the punters, so can be dropped without causing too many ripples. I used it a couple of times on the K10D with the laptop, more out of curiosity than a practical need, it's nice, but probably not essential for most users.

I'll try Winrar later today but I've so far tried 4 different RAR decompression progs with the same result, and I've downloaded the software onto two different machines.

As it's in two parts you probably need the proper Winrar, some other progs only handle one part rars.

Run TEST first from the Winrar menu to make sure the files are OK.

Winrar is also the best for opening zips, it will create a folder with the same name as the archive if you want. i.e. Some_Photos.zip will unzip to C:Some_Photos if that's what you want.
