My camera keeps turning off!!!

I put in new batterys on saturday and as soon as I put them in my camera said I've got no battery, then I turned it off and turned it back on and I had half battery. So i carryed on taking pictures. About 5 minutes later it said "battery deplated" and turned itself off, less than a minute after that I was able to turn it on again and take 2 more pictures before it turned off again. This happened all through the time I was using my Pentax on saturday and it was highly annoying.

Any ideas about what it might be? Or where do you think I should take it to get it looked at/repaired?

What camera and what batteries?

Hi a friend of mine had this problem on his canon but never heard of it with a pentax.

It had to back to the manufacturers for repair sorry.

A pentax K-M and 4 AA batterys - duracell

I have no idea whats wrong with it

what rating are the bateries and how old are they, have you tried others,

1.5V alkaline - LR6 MN1500 AA duracell plus
I litrally bought them on saturday morning and used them straight away. 2 minutes later they died and then my camera turned off and then I was able to take pictures again. (this happened for about 3 hours)

sounds to me like there not up to the job, i recomend using energizer lithium ions or nimh batteies namely sanyo enelops 2000 nimh or uniroos hybros 2100 nimh,

I was waiting for you to say Duracell!

I have the same problem in my *istD and need to "break in" the batteries. Once that is done, they work well and go on and on but the first few hours is a nuisance.

I don't think the camera is a problem - get some other brand of alkaline AA cells and try those. Energiser don't seem to suffer

Longer term you should think about rechargeables (if the camera will work with them).

I had this problem a few years back with an Optio 60. It drained the batteries immediately

It is not, I believe, an immediate drain problem but the cell chemistry causing a false reading until the cells have had a some decent power drain.

I would break in my batteries by doing some full power test discharges with my flash.

in my case it was and Pentax replaced the Optio60

in any event Alkalines are not a good choice for running a DSLR. Energiser Lithiums are the only single use batteries I would contemplate.

Alternatively if you use your camera a lot go for a set of high quality NiMH rechargeables with a similarly high quality charger
