New Limited Lenses on a *istDS?

Hello everyone.

I have a *istDS, and am using a collection of older M42 and K Mount lenses.

Reading reviews of the newer Limited lenses, I gather that their Auto Focus is achieved by a physical drive connection to the camera body.

Is this connection the same as what was around in the olden days of 2004?

I'm thinking of a 21mm Ltd, and won't mind manually focusing if necessary.

Yes it certainly is.

AF has been via screw drive from the camera motor. This is still that same today as it was in the first Pentax AF SLRs.

What has changed is the new SDM system, where the motor is in the lens. Most lenses are still dual AF, so will work with both systems. The limitation is that if you have an SDM-only lens then it won't work on anything older than a K10D with firmware 1.3. It can still be manually focused though.

The 21mm Limited will AF on your *istDS without problems.

Although the 'olden days of 2004' are quite modern considering the screw drive goes back to the SFX from 1987
