The first portrait is very good imo, also the dandelions. The cat, however, is not. If anything needs to be in focus, it's the eyes.
But keep trying. Nte narrow DOF makes it very difficult to get the focus in the right plane.

Agree with above, although the dandelions need to be whiter they seem to have a blue tint on my screen.

Number 1 is really good.
I really love my DFA100 and not just it's macro capabilities.

No. 2 & 3 aren't keepers for me, sorry.
I hope you don't mind but I would have done something like this with #1. The colours have a bit more punch and the subject has more presence with the square crop.
Picasa > 'I'm feeling lucky' + square crop, nothing fancy.

i would never have thought of anything everyone has suggested so thanks, thats given me something to think about.
could the dandelions blueness be because i dont have my screen calibrated?
Is the eyes in focus a general rule of thumb?

Number 1 is the best for me, although as noted the crop doesn't feel right, the face is too central. I would have suggested keeping it landscape but cropping off the left side, although Mannesty's crop is also an improvement. You've nailed the focus on the eyes, but unfortunately the catchlight covering the pupils is quite annoying. It also needs more contrast.

1st one is a pic from a trip to bristol zoo last weekend. I think i annoyed the family by taking soo long to get around.
2nd and 3rd are from experimenting in my garden.
Ive just started to shoot in raw and using silkypix to process.
All comments welcome.
