New K7?

Wait a few months and no doubt the K-5 will drop in price too, the K-7 did, and go the whole hog at 638 you are not really that far shy of the 5. Wait 3 months and I believe the 5 will be much more achievable... that's what I'm doing.

I don't know about that.
What I do know - and what has suprised me enormously - is that the £1000 mark, which is where the K5 will be at SRS when the VAT rise hits - is essentially the same across all the countries I can find.
I'm seriously on the hunt for one (and can't get Cashback for various reasons), so I've been looking. Malaysia, Singapore, all the big US retailers. €1200 in Germany and here... this is seriously impressive and certainly not the way things were four years ago when I bought the K10d.
The K7 was also relatively resistant to price drops in the first few months; I remember the opportunity I had to get one last year when a colleague went to the US. It was not 'cheap' then....I see no reason why the K5 will drop, especially if it beats a d7000 in tests, which it has done.

I've just stumbled across the receipt for a *ist DS I bought exactly 6 years ago on the 30th Dec. 2004 from a mail order pro dealer and it was £739.99 inc. 18-55mm Kit Lens
So you can't complain about the price of Pentax cameras
They must be giving the K-7 away

The k-x high ISO may have spoiled you for both these cameras!
Were you able to, retaining the K-x as a backup body might be a good thing too? It gives you increased flexibility with two lenses ready to go.

The K-5 will drop. They all do. It's a case of balancing up your level of patience against the price drop curve.I don't know about that.

Initially I told myself I would wait until the K-5 dropped below £900, but I'm increasingly getting impatient for one so I will probably get one at a higer proice but get it sooner.
I can't see the point of getting a K-7. Personally if I couldn't stretch to a K-5 for the next year or so and was itching for a camera I'd buy a K20D. You can get yourself a decent additional lens for the price difference.
I actually bought a K10D after getting a K20D as a second body and I have no problems with it in comparison with the K20D. In fact for long exposures it's better because I don't have to mess about disabling the hideous Dark Frame annoyance.

If you use a second body a lot then I think you soon will unless you want to fork out for 2 K-5s.I can't see the point of getting a K-7.
I kept a K10D as a second to the K-7 and then that went and I bought the K-5 but the K10D is just so different ergenomically that I hardly used it.
I recently sold the K10D and will buy another K-7 when they drop below £500 or I find a very good used one (which are already hovering around the £450 mark) because the camera performs very very well as long as you dont go over ISO 1600 (at a push).

All consumer cameras drop in price, eventually. If you adopt a waiting game however, you'll always be waiting and never buying because there is always something better around the corner to wait for it's price to drop. Then another comes along . . .Wait a few months and no doubt the K-5 will drop in price too, the K-7 did . . .
The K20D is a superb camera, as is the K-7, and the K-5. Just decide how best to spend what budget you have and go for it.

The general consensus was that a K20 would still be a great purchase, build, viewfinder, WR etc.
However...
A new K7 now sells for £628 at SRS, with a used K20 going for £369.
My thinking here would be to sell the Kx and get the new K7 (2 year warranty).
Any thoughts on this one?
Happy New Year!
Thanks
Adrian
