Kx orientation sensor issue

Posted 31/12/2010 - 21:41 Link
My kx suddenly decided to read landscape as portrait and vice versa.
Tried reset, shooting jpeg, shooting raw, leaving batts out overnight, reinstalling firmware update etc. all with no joy. After 2 days I drove it back to the camera shop I bought it from where it behaved perfectly. Been fine for the few days since but I'm worried the problem could return. Anybody else seen this??

I've had a K-x for about a month and haven't had any problems. However, I also have a, erm, Canon Ixus 750 which has had an intermittent problem. When physically turning the camera upright for a portrait the viewing screen blacked out. It hasn't done this for some time now.
If your K-x is still within the guarantee period take it back again and if it doesn't show up whilst you are there leave it with them and ask them to keep trying it.

Regards,

Steve.

It's a real nuisance when minor problems occur - do we wait for it to get worse, can we live with the minor inconvenience...sometimes it's tempting to put up with things rather than be without an item for a while.

If your camera is under warranty then it's probably a good idea to have it sorted, if not then maybe it can be lived with, but only you can decide.
Best regards, John

If it's not a software glithc it could possibly a dry joint on the orientation sensor?? The downer is intermittent problems can be a real pain to troubleshoot. Standard practise to locate them on circuit boards is to give the board a tap with something non conductive nor sharp and see if it triggers the problem.

You could try giving the camera a medium force jab with your finger tip and take another pic and see if the problem comes back.

Having your pics orientated the wrong way would be highly annoying for me. Good look in getting it sorted

Thanks for the advice.
I find myself hoping that the problem comes back and stays, so that I can get it fixed. Luckily I bought from a Pentax pro centre and so still have 20 months of warranty left.
