New DSLR - Which Pentax Model to Go For?

Whatever you buy get from a Pro dealer as you will get two years warranty if from new.
I went from KX to KR and K5. I love the semi pro K5 model for its top screen setting, connections, buttons, quietness,14 bit RAW, more user options and quality. The budget models are to some easier to use. The K5 Mk II has better low light autofocus (two stops?)and a gapless rear screen. I have a pro friend using the KR and loves it. The cheap models are all lighter.

2nd that. the K30 and I guess now the K50 is a serious contender, probably has the edge over the K5 in the AF stakes. I wouldn`t part with my K5 though, not until Pentax come up with a very serious improvement.

SRS have a terrific offer on the K-5 at the moment, so I'd be tempted to go for that. The K-5 series are more rugged than the K30-K500-K50 series, and smoother operating as well. The shutter is quite a bit quieter, for example.
All the Pentax DSLRs are excellent though, so it's a tough call.

I agree with John on the shutter noise but the AF speed of the K30 is much improved but as he says the "Entry" level K5 from SRS is a cracking deal.

I have both the K10 and the K5
The K10 is nicer in hand and has the smooth ccd look to the images and I still love it, however, the K5 does make the K10 feel 'clunky' in it's operation and is an improvement in just about all areas
The K5 is a cracking camera but I still use both

Thanks for the feedback guys, it really is appreciated. I'm probably not going to be able to move on anything until month end now though. I'll keep my eyes peeled on the SRS website until then and will let you know what I've gone for.
Cheers Paul

I agree with the others re. the SRS K-5 deal - £449 is a real bargain for such a good camera.

The K-5 at SRS for £449 is a steal - this is a magnificent camera for this price and should be a no brainer if you are looking to buy a Pentax DSLR at present.

K30 is great, no experience of K5 to provide a direct comparison though.
