There doesn't appear to be a part of the forum for Video using Pentax cameras, should there be?? Maybe I've missed it?, I wanted to upload a video and ask some questions about using my K-30 for Video, Is it even possible or do I need to upload it to another site and link to it?

Apologies Admins for the plethora of questions

Daniel.

To be honest there hasn't been much demand for it but you could upload to YouTube or similar and add a link here if you want.

Yes of course there should, but apparently it's 'too difficult'!

Nobody ever said it's too difficult, but the demand is very limited. If there were lots of people posting links to their YouTube videos that might be another matter, but there are not.

Where does that quote come from?

I think the underlying fact is that this is a forum that has evolved from traditional film based photography, and obviously many of the most active members have moved along into digital, but the key aspects of traditional phoography are still at the core of what its all about.

High quality video on 'still' cameras is a fairly new thing - its just a reflection of the bulk of membership here that this is slow to catch on.

For many the use of video will be at an early / experimental stage, both at shooting point and 'processing' (ie editing). I've just got a 'proper' editing program for the first time (Sony Vegas Plat HD) and the learning is fun but takes time. We don't really yet have a common knowledge base and technical vocabulary to share in the same way as for purely 'photographic' matters, so there is more limited potential for robust forum exchanges.

I think video is a minority interest compared to stills photography, so even on the US forum which has embraced the new technology with a separate section and Youtube embedding, posts on video are less than a tenth of the posts on stills photography.

Still, video is a function offered by our cameras, so it still seems an omission not to have a dedicated nook of the forum for discussing it. It's been brought up several times in the past, but by now I do not expect anything to come of it.

Video was the key reason for my change to Pentax. I used an Olympus E520 for several years and was very happy with it. However On my last trips abroad I have started to dabble with video and didn't want to walk around with 2 cameras.

The Olympus 'upgrade' path meant the E5 which, after a reasonably in-depth comparison, came second to the K5ii. That meant a wholesale selling of camera, 5 lenses, flash and other accesories and a big credit card bill spent at SRS

Any video I capture will be hosted on my own website or youtube but it would be good to have a section of the forum to discuss issues, tips, techniques, software packages and recive critiques of our latest blockbusters.

I can see that this could be a bit of a 'catch 22': there are no posts about video so we don't need a separate area but because there is no separate area there is nowhere to post

Does it matter if a section is created that only attracts a few posts? To those that post it does.

If there is no cost involved and a moderator can spare the time I would like to request a dedicated 'nook' for us movie moguls

This is the first video thread for ages. You found a nook for it, so there's no obstacle to posting about Pentax video. It is part of a Pentax DSLR.

As soon as there's an realistic demand, a section will surely follow. Just look at how the Mirrorless section blossomed so quickly.

Absolutely agree, why do we have to wait until we "prove" that there is sufficient interest to get a video area??? Ive no axe to grind and didnt expect this thread to get the response it has so quickly, now doesnt that tell you something?

Oh and BTW would you like to see the video??

I've been waiting to see the video. You could have just posted the video, rather than a thread about not posting the video!

I would also like to see a video section to the forum. With a K5, K30 and an X5 I would like to share techniques. It`s an area I struggle with to be honest so much so that I bought an XM2. I found it quite alien to use a DSLR for video rather than a "Proper" video camera.

Then please share techniques. You have a Pentax DSLR, part of it shoots video, so there's no barrier to posting about it in the Pentax Digital SLRs section.
Best regards, John
