Network Printers

What has happened to network ready printers? Last year they seemed to be fairly easy to find - both Canon and HP did one, but now they seem to be out of fashion which is a bit strange since home networks have been increasingly very popular.

The solution now seems to be to get some highly priced USB-Network adapter to connect a USB printer, but I suspect that a more cost effective solution would be to get NAS with a USB output.

Any suggestions - polite of course - welcome

If you're looking at colour laser most companies make a network version for about £150-£200 more than the non network version.

As a network print server is about £60-£100 you're better off buying the normal version of the printer and adding a "compatable" print server to it. Or just share the printer from a machine that is on all the time like (as you suggest) a NAS

Brother will be bringing out the DCP-560CN in august for about £100 network ready and the DCP-770CW (wireless network) for about £150
Or HP Business Inkjet 1200dtwn Printer at about £300

The HP model is no longer available - according to HP, but I will watch the Brother situation

A lot of routers have USB ports to host a printer. All current Apple routers have it, some Netgear, Linksys and others.

Use my Canon i865 wirelessly with an Airport Express.
