Strangler fig, seed deposited in the top of a host tree (bird droppings) roots are sent downwards, eventually the host tree dies leaving a hollow core surrounded by the roots of the fig.

Its a shame the host tree dies but that fig makes for the most wonderful of subjects!

Fascinating location you have found there. I didn't notice the walkway at the edge of the fig at first viewing - it really puts the sheer size of it into perspective!
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Thanks Gareth and David, here is a lousy shot (4 jpegs stitched) that I attempted but was not happy with, I`ll have to go back at a more suitable time.

we have another one closer to us that is said to be 500 years old but there are usually to many people around it for a shot.
