I'm not sure you can say the start of a collection, I have about 25 film bodies now I think... ~sigh~ I have just sent a KM off to Harrow to see if Robin can sort out the seized solid battery compartment (which also reminds me I have to pay for that one... oops ) I never did like the K1000, I could never see what the fuss was about. Now, if you had a K2...

Ah, yes! - I'm on the lookout for a K2, too. (K2,2! ).
You should have mentioned your seized KM battery lid. That is very easy to free. I could have sent you another bottom plate and battery lid. You just undo three screws and change it over. The bottom plates for KX, KM and K1000 are all the same. - No need to send it to a Pro, for that!

I have a K1000 and don't see the appeal either. It just seems to be basic for hair-shirt reasons and misses a lot of useful features. I mean, would a self timer and DOF preview really offend the "make them learn with a basic one" school so much?
I won't be selling it as it was my first SLR, it's also a late 70s example in very good condition so can only go up in value!
What differences were there between the normal versions of these and the "DMD" versions? I'm guessing they added electrical contacts for the DMD version as well as new baseplates to allow mechanical coupling to the winder.
What's the waist level finder like to use on the LX by the way? I'd be quite tempted to buy one purely for the unusual nature of the part.

Well, Robin will give it a full CLA, do the seals, test the light meter and shutter speeds and all that as well so I have no qualms about spending a little bit of money getting it done. I may collect older cameras (they aren't really "old" after all) but I do so to use them and I feel happier once Robin has waved his magic wand. The K2 DMD and the KM/KX MOT have the connections for their respective motordrives. While I was out in the junk yard today I took some more of my KX and LX in action, and a non-Pentax camera!
1. KX in macro mode. Fitted with a SMC "K" 135mm lens, extension tube and right-angle finder.
2. Ditto.
3. LX with the same lens set-up as above but with a FE-1 magnifinder.
4. Ditto.
5. My Yashica Mat G TLR. This was taken with a Pentax camera and so is just about ok to post. Well, that is my story and I am sticking to it.

The K 135mm f2.5 is a bit of a beast isn't it! One of those is on my wish list if I ever see one when I have a few quid to spare.
Incidentally, if you don't have the original clip-on lens hood then I think there's an ebay seller in Canada who had a handful. I bought one for my 85-210mm f4.5 (same hood, also fits 200mm f4) from them.

I had a hood but it seems have gone AWOL. I keep hoping it'll turn up (especially now I have the 200mm as well) but no sign of it. I might just have to stump up for another. I'm not sure how much difference it makes to the big zoom. I mainly bought it as I had a mint lens in a tidy original case, so it was worth having the hood to get a bit closer to completing the set. Plus it looks very cool having this huge black drainpipe of a lens complete with hood. You wouldn't believe the looks I was getting up in the Elan Valley today while resting my elbows on the stonework and sighting on distant subjects!
Still looking for the attachment (closeup) lens although I do not rate my chances of finding one in similarly mint condition.

I quite like it TBH - very sharp fading to very soft along the length of the spanner. I've been trying to get a decent shot of my MX + winder + M 35-70mm today and DOF is a real pain. I went for focussing about halfway along the lens barrel and then stopping down to f22, the lettering is still legible but not exactly sharp.
Plus it's properly exposed so you know the camera is fine!

I see you are an LX fan - as am I. I was wondering if you could help re finding a company/ give any advice on finding replacement NiCad batteries for my LX motor drive battery packs. One battery pack has given up the ghost and no longer retains a charge. The other is of a similar age - so I may as well go and get them both a new lease of life
