I'll 2nd that Smeggy, SRS's approach is much nicer, not grasping. You make the point so well with your irritating links. I am sure John and the other moderators would never agree to this form of in your face hijacking of a user's website.
... I bought my 3ns K-5 from SRS
Any chance of a link to the 3ns K-5? Ha.

Who would be working on the Saturday? He certainly would not and neither would his staff. So where does "obeying the rule about work on a Saturday" come in to it?Possibly because the company was founded by a Hasidic Jew who thought that obeying the rule about work on a Saturday was more important than profit.
Maybe if I order from them I will add a condition that it is not shipped on a Sunday and that the carrier they choose does not move it on a Sunday.

That would be your choice and if you made it for a genuine reason as opposed just being bloody minded I'd support you. The shops owners clearly feel strongly enough about it that they are willing to take the hit from the few sales they might lose, accept it and wait till they're open or shop elsewhere.

I was aware that the forum owner was struggling to keep the site running, so several years ago I approached him with a suggestion to benefit us both.
Purchases made by clicking on links on his site would give him an affiliate fee.
This helped him keep the site afloat, and gave us greater exposure. It's not an unusual model – in the US at least. And as a family-owned business, we understand only too well hard it is to compete with a real giant (in our case, Amazon)
I'm really sorry that it's led you to feel that we are not a worthwhile company to deal with.

Helen. Thank you for taking the time to come on here and explain your company's view. It just goes to show that different methods of advertising are needed for different markets and can be perceived in very different ways. Smeggypants wrote:

That's why advertising agencies earn the big bucks I suppose.

The capitalist ties of the other forum to the B&H/Adorama cabal doesn't sit well with me.

The relationship with this forum and SRS is more respectful and morally good.
SRS are great and I'd always buy anything new from them, as I have done in the past. I'd NEVER buy anything from B&H/Adorama.
But everything I've read seems to indicate that they are quite a reasonable company to deal with. It seems odd to hold a grudge against a company because of one particular method of gaining interest and revenue.
Now if they supported child labour or international terrorism then fair enough.
Still, each to their own
If SRS and this forum had such an in your face approach I'd feel the same way here.
I've seen posts on the other forum that have keywords being automatically turned into links to B&H Advertising.
here's a hypothetical example of how it would work here
Smeggy says: I think the Comparisons between the K-5 and the K-3 are worth considering when when using the DA* 300
If this forum and SRS automatically added links to members forum posts I would be just as annoyed.
The links between SRS and this forum are respectful and not in your face. Chris posts his deals and is around to answer queries. The next time I will buy a new Pentax camera I will buy it from SRS. My first K-5 had a fault. Chris sent out a replacement and the courier picked up the faulty one at the same time. I cannot ask for better service!! So much so I bought my 3ns K-5 from SRS a few days later.
You and I obviously have different mindsets Ralph. That's fine. Be a boring old world if we were all the same eh?
