K5, da 300 and pentax 1.7 converter for these, the 1.7 does not hunt as much as the tamron 1.4
C&C welcome.

I actually like the colour combinations in the first with that splash of red in the mix. Both good sharp and involving shots. I'd crop in little on the first, mainly to remove that distraction on the left edge ...a square shape may work well I feel.

Agree, that bit on the far left of the opening image is getting my attention. The second I think is a belter! Super sharp, complimenting uncluttered backdrop and a limited palette

Good stuff, Don.
I know how difficult it is to get these buggers, they're quick! So composition is secondary to shooting Sunbirds...

Composition is not secondary to the presentation of photographs .... It shouldn't need spelling out, surely, but my suggestion to Don was nothing to do with how he framed his image in the viewfinder just before pressing the shutter ... But everything to do with how the final output was trimmed, prepared and optimised for presentation.

I think you read too much into my comment, Nigel. Simply put, when trying to capture a fast moving bird such as our Sunbirds, you grab what you can and not think about composing the shot at that time because there rarely is time, you're lucky to even get focus. But yes, you can fiddle around in post production to 'present' it as best you can and 'how you personally like it'.. But that was not what I was saying..

Yes, agreed ....I doubt I would get anything except a wonky shot if I tried photographing birds at long range. Lucky now those final presentation steps are fairly painless to achieve.
