The last one makes the most of the back light and reveals the delicacy and softness of the petals. Lovely colour as well. The effect is more forced in the others with very high contrast making a harsher look and perhaps pushing the red/orange tones too much. But beautiful specimens.... Did you have to buy anything ?

I like the boldness of the first and it's featureless background.

really like this set, i think i would square crop the second one though as i prefer the tighter look of the other two

The first and, particularly, the last are quite lovely. The competing carpet textures on the second one are distracting IMHO
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Yep.

Agree with the second. If the carpet was a neutral backdrop then it'd work better. I do like the composition of it though. As a tip, I went to Hobbycraft and bought some coloured A4 card that I can pop behind a flower to make it pop and stand out

Agree with the last image, love that backlighting

Thanks for all your comments.

I bought these two only Nigel, for a particular idea which didn't work so I took these instead.
I didn't push the saturation at all, the large one really is that intense colour which is why i bought it, however I did add a small light onto it from a table lamp with a home made 'snoot' (which was also used to backlight the smaller flower)

I really like the 2nd one. The 3D pattern on the background makes it unique.

Best thing I've seen in backgrounds for some time.

Photographers seem to think plain backgrounds are good for some reason.
They suck of amateurism.
Painters rarely use plain backgrounds nor did old school portrait photographers

Some examples.....
