Moving over to Pentax

There seems to be a bit of paranoia in this thread. People looking at you funny because you use a certain brand of camera? Oooer

The Pentax K5 is a very good camera and holds its own with any other in its price range. I doubt the the OP would regret such a change but really, any comparable priced Nikon, Canon or Sony would do much the same job.

Given the lenses he is being offered, a k5 would be a good buy.

This should tell you all you need to know link. The K5 knocks the 5D out in the first round. Now the 5DII is a very different proposition
From the above comparison:

Snapsort recommends the Pentax K-5. This recommendation, however, should be taken with a grain of salt since it doesn't always make sense to compare a pro DSLR with a entry-level DSLR.
Is this just a (very poorly thought out) generalised comment, or are they actually implying that either the 5D or the K-5 could be considered an

I totally disregard their comments / recommendations but the figures they give are a good and easy source for comparative purposes.

Having a Canon user move over to a Pentax is very much like a Windoz user move over the Mac... Only once you start using the Pentax do you think "Why did I take long to make the change?".

Enjoy .......now I'm off to download a few images from my K5 to my iMac..heaven
I'm about to move BACK to Pentax having used Canon for just over a year. also, have just moved from winodws to Mac in the last few months. How aposite your comment is dear fellow.

I have just posted a question to you about that in the newbies section.
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

I find the discussion slightly odd....

5D + 3 rather good Canon lenses, true the 5D may be 6 year old technology and ONLY 12MP, I would be tempted to keep that and get a cheaper used K20D or K7 (even a K10D) to use the lenses on, and an adaptor for the lenses to be fitted to the EOS....

When I bought the D3 I wondered how this would affect use of the Pentax gear, the K20D is used less (the fact the DA*60-250 had a wobbly at an air show didn't help) but I just take more photographs than previously..

My GF has always coveted a 5D/5D2 - although it has its advantages it has two blots - slow fps and cheap build - the Pentax will trump it in these two respects, but if you choose to buy a Pentax body you cannot go wrong with the models you have identified.....if you sell the EOS/EF then you will get enough back for the K-5 at least.
